YotaPhone 2 : Dual Screen Android Smartphone

Yotaphone 2 is an Android phone with a normal LCD screen on one side and also an E-Ink display on the back, a smartphone that is very different from the others because it has a dual displayfeature, thus making it the most unique smartphones of all time. It’s the second attempt by aRussian firm Yota at making this two-faced phone. But this one has a wealth of upgrades to the design and overall specs.

The first YotaPhone was certainly novel, and its E-ink second display showed promise. Its poor quality and lack of compatible software made users and critics really disappointing. Not willing to throw in the towel, the Russian handset manufacturer is back with the second-generation YotaPhone, the YotaPhone 2.

Yotaphone 2 has a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor with a clock frequency of 2.3 GHz, battery capacity of 2550 mAh, two cameras – 2 and 8 megapixels, 2GB and 32 GB of RAM and internal memory respectively.

  The new smartphone has a 5-inch full HD resolution and a 4.7-inch E-Ink with a resolution of 960 x 540 pixels and backlight. The first version had a 4.3-inch LCD-display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels and a 4.3-inch E-Ink with a resolution of 640 x 360 pixels without illumination.

Yotaphone 2 is larger, its dimensions – 144 x 69.5 x 8.9 mm. Its first version was in the parameters – 133 x 67 x 9.9 mm. Dimensions grew due to the diagonal hike of the display. It can be used even when wearing gloves.

The entire point of the YotaPhone 2’s existence is the second display on the back. It uses e-ink technology, which isn’t backlit like typical LCDs and only uses power when it refreshes what’s on screen. It’s therefore incredibly
power efficient. The second screen takes calls, messages, & allows you to use the Internet.

Having a display on both sides is something potential users might struggle with psychologically, as weird as that sounds. I mean, when do you ever put your mobile down on a surface face-first? Well, with the YotaPhone 2, you have to put it down face-first and also, there might arise some confusion of holding it on the wrong side.

It costs £550, SIM-free and unlocked, which converts directly to around $860 or $1,025. That puts it squarely in the price range of the smartphone elite blockbuster phones like the iPhone 6, Samsung Galaxy S5, Sony Xperia Z3 and LG G3.

Although the Yotaphone 2’s e-ink display is wonderfully novel, and can result in much better battery life, the phone needs to be considerably cheaper if it’s going to be a sensible purchase over other Android phones.
